Policies & Schemes of Central as well as State Government Institutions


Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana - Rs. 24,000 cr

Being implemented since 2000. Proposals for 4,20,637 km of roads have been cleared. `84,731 crore were released up to March 2011 against the sanctioned Rs 1,18,949 crore.

Mid-Day Meal Scheme - Rs. 11,937 cr

The largest noon meal scheme in the world fed 10.46 crore children of primary and upper primary classes in 11.92 lakh schools as on January 30, 2012.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan - Rs. 25,555 cr

The largest scheme for delivering elementary education. Rs 21,000 crore—65 per cent of the total allocation—was earmarked in FY 2011-12, up from Rs 7,166 crore in FY 2005-06.

Total Sanitation Campaign - Rs. 3,500 cr

Over 626 million Indians do not have access to toilets. The Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan or Total Sanitation Campaign would attempt to put an end to open defecation within the next decade.

National Rural Health Mission - Rs. 20,822 cr

The government proposes to convert the scheme into a National Health Mission to provide healthcare to the urban poor too under the 12th Plan.


MGNREGS* - Rs. 33,000 cr

As of July 2012, 5.50 cr families, or one in four rural households, were provided over 250 crore person-days of work.

Integrated Child Development Scheme - Rs. 15,850 cr

It’s one of the world’s largest and most unique programmes for early childhood development. There were 972.49 lakh beneficiaries during 2011-12.

National Rural Drinking Water Programme - Rs. 14,000 cr

As of Feb 2012, of about 16.6 lakh rural habitations, 12.7 lakh were covered fully—77% of the habitations have 40 litre per capita per day.

National Social Assistance Programme - Rs. 8,447 cr

Aims at ensuring minimum national standard for social assistance in addition to the benefits that states are providing or might provide in future.

Aadhaar-UID Number - Rs. 1,758 cr

The 12-digit individual identification number will serve as proof of identity and address anywhere in India. 60 crore people are likely to get the UID number by 2014.

APDRP* - Rs. 3,114 cr

In 2011-12, power distribution projects worth Rs 9,595.46 crore have been sanctioned and Rs 1,667.87 crore has been released.

Direct cash transfer scheme - Rs. 3.25 lakh cr

Cash transfer of subsidies for 26 schemes would be directly made available; rolled out in 51 districts across 15 states from January 1.

JNNURM* - Rs. 62,253 cr

As on June 30, 2012, 554 projects were sanctioned. The duration was from 2005-06 to 2011-12 but it has been extended till March 2014.

Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana - Rs. 9,217 cr
Aims at achieving 4% annual growth in the agriculture sector. Total number of projects completed till 2012-2013 is 5,768.


Indira Awas Yojana - Rs. 11,000 cr
In Aug 2012, a hike was announced in allocation of grants for construction of houses from `45,000 to `75,000 per dwelling unit. The hike will take effect on April 1, 2013.

Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana - Rs. 1,096.7 cr
Beneficiaries are entitled to hospitalisation coverage up to Rs 30,000 for most of the diseases that require hospitalisation.

Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme - Rs. 14,242 cr
Allocation in 2012-13 is raised by 13%. To mobilise large resources to fund projects, a government-owned company is being operationalised.

Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana - Rs. 4,900 cr
In 2011-12, electrification of 7,934 villages has been completed and 34.44 lakh BPL connections provided.

Scheduled Castes Sub Plan - Rs. 37,113 cr
Under the scheme, 100% grant is given to the states/UTs as an additive to their Scheduled Castes Sub Plan (SCSP).
